Becoming with Technology—the Reconfiguration of Age in the Development of a Digital Memory Training

To face the challenges of demographic change digital assistive technologies play a more and more dominant role in public discourse, scientific research and policy agenda. Therefore, digital technologies like smart carpets, intelligent doors or ambient sensors should assist older people to secure their autonomy as ageing subjects without depending on care of other humans.

Despite the question if the imagined potential of these technologies can ever be realized the discourse points out how technology and age are related under the conditions of a growing number of older people and an increasing demand for care: While age and ageing are socio-culturally imagined as physical and cognitive decline and depending on care, digital technologies seem to be always ready for use, never tired or grouchy.
